Hope and Area Transition Society Shelter Cook

Job Summary:

The Shelter Cook works as a member of the House of Hope Shelter Team. The role of the cook is to ensure that guests in the shelter receive nutritious, hot meals twice a day. The House of Hope is located at 650 Old Hope Princeton Way in Hope but may supply food to other locations if necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • · Establishing a weekly menu (lunch and dinner) based on Canada Food Guide nutritional standards.
  • · Within a budget, order appropriate food supplies to meet the needs of the weekly budget.
  • · Work with the Program Co-ordinator to establish the number of meals required on a weekly basis based on the number of guests and the amount of food handed out to the unsheltered homeless.
  • · Maintain a clean work environment and adhere to all FoodSafe and Fraser Health requirements.
  • · Ensure a consistent quality of meals and that an appropriate quantity of food is served.
  • · Create a liaison with local food suppliers to ensure donations are appropriate for our program.
  • · Solicit and maintain new donation streams.
  • · Other duties as assigned by the Program Co-ordinator.

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $21.20-$24.68 per hour

Experience:

  • Culinary: 1 year (preferred)
  • cooking: 1 year (preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Food Safe, SafeCheck, Food Handler or equivalent (required)
