About Us: Cedar Strong is a non-profit society based in Hope, that provides client-centered programs/services to individuals and families. Through a trauma-informed approach, Cedar Strong offers housing, advocacy and education to build resilience, empowerment and inclusion. Cedar Strong currently employs over 80 staff members who support its programs and services.

Position Overview:
The Food Services Coordinator will manage the planning, preparation, and distribution of nutritious meals within our shelter locations. This role will involve overseeing meal planning, budgeting, coordinating donations, and managing food inventory. Additionally, the coordinator will be responsible for arranging relief staff to cover any kitchen staff absences, ensuring that operations continue smoothly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meal Planning & Menu Development:
  • Develop, plan and create nutritious, balanced meal plans to support the health of the homeless guests in our shelters.
  • Budgeting & Financial Management:
  • Oversee and manage the food services budget, ensuring effective use of resources while meeting program goals.
  • Track expenses and optimize food procurement to stay within budgetary constraints.
  • Review and manage food costs, adjusting as needed to ensure that meals are cost-effective without compromising quality.
  • Coordinating Donations & Deliveries:
  • Build and maintain relationships with local vendors, grocery stores, community partners, and donors to ensure a steady supply of food.
  • Coordinate food donation pick-ups and deliveries, ensuring that all donations are properly stored and utilized.
  • Track donation inventory and ensure proper management of donated food supplies.
  • Kitchen Staff & Volunteer Management:
  • Supervise, train, and provide support to kitchen staff and volunteers, ensuring they adhere to food safety standards and best practices.
  • Arrange relief staff for kitchen staff absences, including scheduling backup staff or volunteers to maintain consistent operations.
  • Develop and implement training programs for new kitchen staff and volunteers.
  • Food Safety & Compliance:
  • Ensure all food preparation, storage, and handling procedures comply with local health and safety regulations.
  • Monitor kitchen cleanliness and food safety protocols to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.
  • Collaboration & Coordination:
  • Work closely with shelter coordinators, staff, and community outreach teams to coordinate food services.
  • Reporting & Program Evaluation:
  • Provide regular reports to senior management on budget status, food program outcomes, and food safety compliance.
  • Other Duties:
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management to ensure the overall success of the food services program.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in food service management, ideally in a non-profit or community-focused setting.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and sanitation practices, with certification (e.g., Food safe or equivalent).
  • Experience with budgeting, meal planning, and managing food service programs.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with local food donors, community partners, and volunteers.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multitask and manage staff effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing conditions and priorities, especially in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Compassionate and dedicated to supporting vulnerable populations, particularly those experiencing homelessness.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform physical tasks as needed within the food service environment.
